Initiatives
Lobbying efforts
IIABNY continues to be the voice of
independent agents and an unrelenting advocate on their behalf.
This advocacy takes a number of forms, including lobbying on
legislative, regulatory and legal issues, public information
programs and assistance on technical questions. IIABNY’s
influence has a major impact on issues that affect the
independent agent’s day-to-day business.
Public/consumer
information programs IIABNY
continues to work on the public’s behalf for legislation and
reform that is in their best interest. Additionally, IIABA
publishes consumer brochures that agents can use to educate
their clients on such topics as how to report accidents to myths
about renters insurance.
Insurance company
advocacy activities IIABNY and
IIABA initiate advocacy activities with regional and national
insurance companies to promote the independent agency
distribution system and work on the agent’s behalf to ensure
fair dealings. IIABA does conduct insurance company contract
reviews. The results of the reviews are available to members.
Project InVest
This is a career education program tailored to high school
students and young adults that gives them some exposure to the
fundamentals of insurance. This education program not only helps
them in their professional development, but also in their
personal life.

policy RLI’s In-Home Business
Policy, provides great home-business coverage for a very low
premium. This policy is specifically designed for over 120
classes of small retail and service type home-based businesses,
and IIABNY members earn 10% commission on new and renewal

Continuing Education
If you hold a property & casualty or a life & health agent,
broker, or general or life consultant license in New York state,
you must comply with Section 2132 of the Insurance Law,
established by the New York State Legislature in 1992, which
requires continuing education. IIABNY offers over 250
educational classes throughout New York State on over 50

Tailored In-House Training
Convenient and cost-effective, IIABNY’s extensive line of
courses are offered to agencies in their offices. More than 20
course options, ranging from personal and commercial lines to
agency management, are available. IIABNY’s courses, which are

Accredited Adviser in
Insurance (AAI) The AAI program
is designed for insurance producers. AAI is intended to acquaint
agents, brokers and customer service personnel with the major

agency operations. The Insurance Institute of America and the
IIABA developed this program.
Accredited Customer
Service Representative (ACSR) The
ACSR program is the IIABA’s national designation program that
promotes and recognizes the professionalism of customer service
personnel in the insurance industry. ACSR offers designations in
personal and commercial lines, as well as Life/Accident/Health.
Agency Management
Master Certificate (AMC) IIABNY’s
Agency Management Master Certificate seminars are designed
specifically for agents by agents. This on-going series of
seminars offers small groups an opportunity for hands-on agency
management training.
