Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling of Long Island selected as general contractor for
United Way of Long Island “YouthBuild Long Island” program

Brentwood, NY – September 15, 2008 - Mark Gunthner, Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling of Long Island owner, has been selected to serve as general contractor for United Way of Long Island’s “YouthBuild Long Island” program. According to Gunthner, Paul Davis Restoration and United Way of Long Island will launch the construction start of an energy-efficient home in Brentwood, NY on Monday, Sept. 15 as part of the community development initiative. “YouthBuild Long Island provides young people with the opportunity to continue their education, learn job skills to help transform their lives, plus learn to build green, energy efficient homes that will provide safe, healthy, affordable permanent housing for Long Islanders in need,” said Gunthner.

In 2006, the YouthBuild pilot program began in the Suffolk County area of New York with a house provided by the Town of Islip Community Development Agency. This year, the YouthBuild Long Island home in Brentwood will built during the next nine months and then sold to a qualifying low-income family.

“We are proud to be involved in this outstanding United Way program which helps young people learn new skills. YouthBuild Long Island was developed to help young men and women become productive members of society and teach them abilities in the construction trade,” said Gunthner.

Paul Davis Restoration, United Way of Long Island and its partners will be working with program participants between the ages of 18 and 24 who will obtain their high school Graduate Equivalency Degree (GED), receive onsite construction training through an accredited pre-apprenticeship program, career and social counseling, case management services and the opportunity to develop education, employment and valuable leadership skills. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be offered a career opportunity in construction or a related field or to continue their education.

According to Gunthner, his company will help to train the young people about green and energy efficient homes through the New York State ENERGY STAR ® program which provides safe, healthy, affordable, durable and sustainable permanent housing solutions and focuses on using sustainable building materials, appliances and building methods.

Paul Davis and YouthBuild Long Island is a collaboration with United Way’s community partners and local businesses including Green Depot, Amvick, Solar Radiant Technologies, Home Performance Technologies and Michael Fairchild Video Productions.
